Seniors Too Young for Medicare Can Now Get Health Insurance Information Through ASBA

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Chicago, IL - March 10, 2010 - For those who are between the ages of 50 and 64, securing health insurance presents a special set of challenges. Because this group is not yet eligible to receive Medicare, it can be difficult to find quality health insurance if they aren’t covered by their employer’s plan.

The American Senior Benefits Association (ASBA) has a partnership with Assurant Health to provide health insurance information to individuals and families living in this “in-between” age group.

“Coverage is a lifesaver for anyone who is ineligible for Medicare, but still needs health insurance”, said Bill Hill, Sr., President and Chairman of the Board of ASBA, “especially these days when many in the over-50 category have lost their jobs and their health insurance, but still need to protect themselves against illness. Once they reach 65, the problem is a bit less troubling because the safety net of Medicare is there. But at 54, 55, 56, these folks are on their own”.

Assurant Health has a long history of providing health insurance to small businesses, as well as individuals and their families, and was one of the first to introduce the Health Savings Account (HSA) to the market.

For more information on health insurance through Assurant Health, visit the ASBA website at www.asbaonline.org. Assurant Health is the brand name for products underwritten and issued by Time Insurance Company.

The American Senior Benefits Association (ASBA) is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit association where membership is completely free. ASBA is committed to lifestyle enhancement through benefits, advocacy and education for the over-50 population. ASBA concentrates its efforts on the issues that are of greatest concern to its members. Through its partners and programs, ASBA members receive news and information, product and service discounts, as well as other benefits. Current ASBA membership stands at over 600,000 nationally.
