ASBA Goes Social with New Facebook and Twitter Presence

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Chicago, IL - August 9, 2010 - In a nod to the surge in social networking, the American Senior Benefits Association (ASBA) has launched its very own Facebook and Twitter pages.

According to a study by the Pew Research Center, in the past six months, the number of over-55 Facebook users has increased by 35%. With individuals over 55 representing the fastest growing segment of Facebook users, ASBA sees the addition of a Facebook page as a natural evolution for the organization. Social networking fits nicely into ASBA's growth and development strategy in that it gives people who have never experienced ASBA more ways to see what they've been missing, just by visiting ASBA's Facebook and Twitter pages.

An additional impetus for this move toward social networking is that it is one of the few media that acts as a shared tool across the generations, allowing families to keep in close touch even when they are far apart geographically.

"We realize that it's no longer just kids or young adults who use Facebook and Twitter to connect. Social networking sites have a lot to offer the mature demographic also," said Bill Hill, Sr., ASBA's President and Chairman of the Board. "While Boomers and seniors are on Facebook connecting with family and friends, and renewing old relationships, they can now check the ASBA Facebook and Twitter pages to see what's new with us."

ASBA's new Twitter presence will also allow members to tweet about ASBA and encourage followers to visit the ASBA page to learn about its free membership, programs and current events, search the jobs database and read ASBA articles that may be of interest to them.

ASBA encourages people of all ages to visit the new Facebook page. "If you like it," remarked Hill, "tell your Facebook friends to look us up."
